Main Objective

The main objective of the project is to improve the living conditions of people in Lunawa catchmet North - (Dehiwala – Mt. Lavinia Municipal Council ) and in South - (Moratuwa Municipal Council) by mitigating the flood damage through an integrated programme of improvement of urban drainage and canal systems, including social and community development

Specific Objectives

To improve environment and to uplift the quality of life of people in Lunawa area by;

• Alleviating flood, through improvement of storm water drainage systems , including the rehabilitation of existing canals and streams,

• Creating a hygienic and pleasant environment through improvement of storm water drainage systems

• Upgrading living conditions of the communities identified for resettlement (870HH) and  Under-served communities in the inundated area and communities along new canal and lake front.

• The focus is on human settlements & community development of user communities in the area leading to and generating a sustainable area based urban development process devoid of Floods
