Community Organizations and Support Organizations

In any community of settlement, its members can form their own community-based organization (CBO) for a specific purpose(s).The establishment of a CBO could be done by following a CAP process. The main function of a CBO is to mobilize its members in community work. If CBOs are given a formal status by registering them at their respective ULAs, they could deal with small-scale contracts on behalf of their communities. In this Project, an implementing framework of Settlement Development Committee (SDC) .


Roles and responsibilities of SDCs/CBOs are;

  • Mobilization of community people

  • Identification of demand for infrastructure facilities

  • Identification of technical options for infrastructure

  • Preparation of cost estimates for the proposed infrastructure

  • Preparation and submission of community proposals to the US1P/ULA

  • Entering into contract agreements and adopting construction and contract management

  • Management of budgetary resources for the community contracts

  • Operation and maintenance of infrastructure facilities by establishing a sustainable O&M
